Fire Safety

You may have had your little ones coming home talking about fire safety. Our friends were all given the task to go home and talk to their family about a fire safety plan. We have spent time learning about what to do if there is a fire and how to keep ourselves safe. Please take time to talk with your families about how to get out of your house in case of a fire. Having a fire drill at home is a great way to prepare your family ahead of time in case of a fire.
This week, we begin our unit on Families as well as continuing our lessons about fall. We will start talking about pumpkins specifically over the next week or so in order to prepare for our field trip to the pumpkin patch. If you have not done so already, please send in the permission slip by tomorrow. We will be unable to take students who have not sent in a permission slip. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a fun, first field trip!

Hooray for United Way!

This month we have been collecting donations for the United Way. The United Way is a wonderful organization which does so much for members of our community. Please continue to send in any spare change this week that you would like to donate to this charitable organization. This Friday, we will be celebrating with a Pajama Day (no slippers please)! We are also still waiting to see which teacher will get the "Pie in the Face"! So far, Mr. Lally has the fullest bucket!!
This week we have introduced the letter Mm as well as the sound Mm stands for (mmm...I tell the students it's like saying "Mmm, that's good!") We are practicing forming the letter, tracing the letter, and writing the letter independently. Practice with your child by looking for the letter Mm within environmental print or around your home.
Students are learning to count the "math way" during our small group rotations. This is a different way of using our fingers to represent numbers. We start with using the left pinky finger to represent the number one and move on as if you are looking at a number line. Today, students used a piano template to help them learn to count the "math way".
