Once Upon A Time...

Once upon a time, there was a Friendly Firefly class at Bookman Road Elementary School.  This class has been busy since August learning and growing together! During the month of March, this class learned all about fairy tales and can tell you all about them...you should ask! They had fun hearing many versions of fairy tales, helping with flannel board story telling, and even acting out fairy tales.    

This Friendly Firefly class will continue to work together, learn together, and play together living happily ever after.

Fairy Tale Fun!

We have had a lots of fun reading about Jack and the Beanstalk this week.  We have read four different stories about our friend Jack.  We even read a book from the Giant's point of view.  Ask your child to tell you about their favorite version.  You may hear something about a stinky pinky.  I'm sure your child would love to tell you all about it!  We wrapped up this week with our field trip to the Marionette Theater today.  The students loved getting a "hand" at the puppets themselves.  

Next week we will continue the fairy tale fun with several versions of the Three Little Pigs.

Fun Run Friday!

We had a great time today at our Fun Run!  Thanks so much for all of the support of this fundraiser.  As you can see from our photos, the event lived up to it's name.  Our friends had so much FUN!!  (You can tell by their faces in the photos.)  We even had Dr. Hill and Mr. Reliford run with us, pushing Makayla in her stroller.  Makayla fractured her ankle yesterday and we want to wish her well!  I am so glad she was able to participate with us.  

Don't forget, next Friday is our field trip to the Marionette Theater.  We are really looking forward to seeing Jack and the Giants!

First Grade Charity Drive for March

First grade charity runs throughout March and it is to collect money for the Columbia Police Department’s K-9 Unit.  1st Grade wants to raise money to put towards a new bullet proof vest for one of the police dogs.

Read Across America Week

Wow, we have had a very busy and EXCITING week!  Each day this week, we have celebrated Dr. Seuss in a different way.  We have read many Dr. Seuss books, worked on rhyming words,  made up our own Wacky Wednesday story, made and ate green eggs and ham, and of course dressed up like our favorite storybook characters.  We had a great time at our parade this morning and discussing our characters during large group.  

In March, we will focus on rhyming words as we study Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales.  We are looking forward to going to the Columbia Marionette Theater to see a performance of "Jack & the Giants" on Friday, March 16th.

Team day 3 (3/2) - Weekend Challenge - The top class over the weekend will earn a Swag Bag! 

Team Day 4 (3/5) - Extra Recess Challenge - The top class will earn extra recess and the teacher will receive a $5 Starbucks gift card on Booster! 

Team Day 5 (3/6) - Recess Dance Party Challenge - The top pledging grade will earn a dance party at recess! 

Team Day 6 (3/7) - Pizza Party Challenge - The top class will earn a pizza party! 

Team Day 7 (3/8) - Last Night for Pledges - Create anticipation of the Fun Run and encourage students to get one more pledge!
